1 - My travel across the lone star state brought me to Houston today.
So much going on in Houston … sprawling … I found this restaurant in Houston - ESCALANTE’S - and just had to take a picture - it is the also the last name of my producer, Lou Escalante.

2 - The SWANS you see I’ve named Gram & Pa - they live in the fountain outside our hotel. I think these swans are a great subject, and you’ll be seeing them in my new 1500 Series later this summer.

3 - We have a great CLASS in Houston - lots of interesting personalities. We began on Saturday and finish on Monday. We always have good people. .

4 - MAGNOLIAS are a great subject and I’ve used them in my paintings - you’ll be seeing these Magnolias, too, in my 1500 series coming out later this summer.

BOOK I’M READING:
Water for Elephants, by Gruen - Best Book I’ve read this year! I’ve been reading this book during my swing through Mississippi, Louisiana & Texas.

TERRY’S TRAVEL TIP: And here’s a great travel tip - stop by any Cracker Barrel restaurant and you can rent yourself a book on audio - which I like to do - then, as you travel, listen to the book, and drop it off at any other Cracker Barrel location when you’re finished, and pick up another if you like - a great way to enjoy the hours !

1 - BLUEBONNET FLOWERS. Judy and I have arrived in San Antonio today, and one of the the beautiful things you’ll see as you travel across this state are these bluebonnet flowers along the interstate.

2 - San Antonio is a historic place and the ALAMO is one of the most inspiring stories in American history. You can see the Alamo outside our hotel window if you look closely.

3 - On my website, we’ve been using a beautiful photo of San Antonio’s RIVERWALK area. This is a beautiful area and home to a great restaurant in San Antonio.

4 - PAESANOS - their Italian food is fantastic and they made the best “Shrimp Paesano” I’ve ever had.

Class in San Antonio was great to work with, and there was a lot of real talent there. I really love working with good people - and our group in San Antonio was just such a group.

5 - As we traveled around the city, we saw this great wall MURAL - it was the Fiesta for ten days during our stay, and this mural captured the spirit of it all to us.

1 - BEAU RAVAGE HOTEL.  Judy and I have traveled into Mississippi today, and stayed at one of our favorite hotels here, the Beau Ravage.  The hotel is great, but much of Mississippi’s coast is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina - but the rebuilding is going on.

2 - COVINGTON, LOUISIANA CLASS.   Our class was in Covington, Louisiana and we had great people in it.  Many of  these local painters watch our program on the WLAE station.  Lots of talent here.  Watercolor is thriving in Louisiana.

3 - NEW ORLEANS.   I love New Orleans. There is so much creative energy here. It is sad to see all the destruction in the area, but it is encouraging to see the progress being made.  I love the street musicians - many are so talented.  And some of my favorite restaurants are in the French Quarter.  This is a view - albeit a poor one - from our hotel of the city in the distance.  The photo doesn’t do the area justice.  I believe New Orleans will thrive once again.
